Using Web Archives to View Past Dolls on the dotcom

Image
I recently discovered a website web.archive.org where you can type in any website and view a cached version of it.  I typed in cabbagepatchkids.com and it went clear back to 1998, where it looked very different! In the 2009 archives, you can can see that they had Babyland Exclusives for sale, but unfortunately the archived page does not show pictures. In the 2011 archives, you can actually see photos! In the 2015 archives you can begin to sort by eye color, hair color, etc. Seems like most of the dolls had the teeth showing.  Not too many different head molds.  At least not on the website. You can see that the prices for the 20" Exclusives were $70 until 2021, when prices jumped to $80.  They also stopped having pre-selected names and birthdays and nametags, which were some of the main selling points. It's been a fun experience going back in time to see the different websites and dolls that were available.  I could literally spend all day doing this!

Free Pattern - Witch Hat for CPKs

Image
I’ve got a tutorial for you below – AND a free pattern you can use to make the witch hat for your Cabbage Patch Kids. It is sized to fit 20" TRUs, but looks good on 16" as well. You can always resize it by taking off the seam allowances, then resizing it, then adding the seam allowances back on. Seam allowances are 1/4". All you need to make it is the free pattern and 1/2 yard of felt, fleece, or similar. If you are using regular cotton fabric, you might want to add some interfacing to stiffen it up. These hats are so fast and so easy to make! The simple witch hat is cute enough on its own, but it’s also the perfect blank canvas for embellishment. Just walk through the fancy trims aisle and the Halloween wreath picks at the craft store and you’ll find all the inspiration you need to make a witch hat that will stand out from the rest. You can use premium felt at Joann's for more stiffness and shape. I chose fleece because I wanted my hat to be a little floppy. L

How to Cover Up Light Pox With Stencil Creme Paint

Image
Light Pox. I know it’s a little hard to tell in the photos, but there are pox there. The before photo shows how the pox looked like before painting. The after photo shows after I’ve painted the entire face (except the eyes) with PEACH Stencil Magic Paint Creme. This is no longer available in stores, unfortunately, and I have not been able to find it anywhere. The pox aren’t completely invisible, but they aren’t as visible. I rubbed it in with a rag. I have heard of others using makeup, but makeup comes off. This stencil paint is permanent once it dries. Maybe if everyone starts writing to paint companies asking to bring back the stencil paint, then they will.

How to Lighten Pox with Zit Cream on Dolls

Image
Pox. Those little dark or light spots on the vinyl. This is how I get rid of the dark spots. (This method also works on ink marks and yellowed shoes.)  Use zit cream with 10% benzoyl peroxide (some countries only have 5%, but that's ok, it'll just take longer to work.) Spread it all over the poxed area and set it in direct sunlight. For this boy, I put him outside in 105* weather. I have put them in the window before. And when it's overcast, it takes a lot longer to work. The more sun, the better.  I noticed a huge difference in just the first day, but they are still visible. I will probably try it once more, as I don't want the vinyl to fade. I put the cream on the inside as well as the outside, as I have heard that this method works well.  Precautions: Test a small area first, as it does fade some vinyls more than others. Don’t use more than a few days or it will fade the vinyl. Check daily. I take it all off at end of day and start again the next day.  Don’t use on d

#52 Ruffled Overalls Pattern for Cabbage Patch Dolls
